Spring Break for many area children will be the week of March 25 – 29.  This is an excellent time to get in some work on chess.  Therefore, a combination of experienced players have offered to teach to some small groups.  One group will be taught by Mohit and Ram(MR), and one group will be taught by combination, probably by Vignesh, Viraaj, and Kalyani (VVK).

The MR group is designed for those over about 700 (US Chess rating), and the VVK group will be created for many more beginner players.  In both groups, the material will vary substantially.  Among the items covered by the MR group will be how to analyze (with and without a computer and how to use the two together) and endings based on the numerous mistakes noticed in tournament games over the last few months.  The VVK material will be much more traditional beginner-based, i.e., it will have many tactical motifs and checkmate patterns.

Both classes will go from 9 to 12 each morning.  Parents are welcome to come a little after 12 if that is easier, and we will likely let the kids play some blitz and bughouse during the lunch break.

There will be a substantial second-child discount. Contact me about that at [email protected]. Also, if you are at a school that is not off all week or the student is traveling for part of the week, we will be able to prorate for the days he will be gone.

We need four students in each section for it to run, though the sections will work best in the 7 to 10 range.

I will be in the building all the time except Tuesday after 1, so please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions about the various upcoming national events or anything else.
