SUMMARY:Ladies Tournament
DESCRIPTION:$100 Open Prize – 11 to 5 PM; G/40\, d5  \nThe 1st round will start at 11\, lunch (gluten free pizza will be provided by around 12:15 or so)\, Round 2 will be at 12:30.  Rounds 3 and 4 will be as soon as possible\, starting no later than 2 and 3:30 respectively. \nThe sections are Mother’s (Unrated)\, Open\, Under 900\, Under 400. The Open has 3 trophy prizes and a $100 for first place.  The other sections will have at least three trophy prizes.  Hope to see everyone there! \nSeveral people have asked about the unrated mother’s section.  I knew of two mothers who had not really been able to play often where they had been children and now that their kids played\, they were even more interested in playing.  Also\, recently I had lent a student a tactics book to work in and when I asked the young lady to return it she explained that she was done\, but her mother was beginning to work through it and was hoping she could borrow it.  These experiences made me decide we should have a Mother’s section.  None of these ladies have ratings\, and I expect most don’t and probably wouldn’t join US Chess if pressed\, so this section is unrated and we will see how it does. \nFormer US Women’s Champion Jennifer Shahade has kindly offered to donate 2 signed copies of her book – Play Like a Girl! to be used as prizes at the event. \nGideon Richard\, whose mother is playing\, has kindly offered to go over games of finished players\, especially those in the beginner section.

SUMMARY:2024 PTA Chess Event
DESCRIPTION:This 4 round chess event is being sponosored by the Philadelphia Telangana Association.  Free pizza dinner is provided. \nThe event will be in 4 sections.  Two unrated – Kindergarten to 6th and 7th to 12th grade.  There will also be two rated sections.  These sections will be quick rated\, but regular ratings used for sign up (this is common as not everyone has quick or blitz rating.)  The sections are Championship (Open) and Under 900. \nThe time control for the tournament is G/15\, d5 and taking notation is optional. \nThe rounds will begin at 6:15 and they will proceed as soon as possible\, allowing time to have pizza\, etc.\, as appropriate.  Sections will end at 10 at the latest\, likely a little earlier for the more beginner sections. \nPrizes include certificates and trophies.  Certificates are given out at tournament site.  Trophies are given out at the PTA event on June 15\, 2024 at East High School event at roughly 7:30 PM. \nFor the registration form\, if you are playing in an unrated section\, you do not need to join US Chess at the event.  If you would like to\,  we can help you do that\, but for either unrated section you do not need to be a member of US Chess. \nIf you are interested in many of our other tournaments\, including the Ladies tournament on Saturday\, June 1\, or Bughouse\, on Sunday\, June 2\, just click on the tournament tab or event tab (event tab includes chess summer camps\, regular club meetings\, and tournements) in the upper part of the screen. \n  \n  \n
